Innova database tracking found that the activity of new product release of dietary supplements in Europe and the United States in 2019 was far higher than that in other regions. North America was the leading new product launch of dietary supplements, accounting for 44%, followed by Europe, accounting for 35%; Asia accounted for 11%, ranking the third, and other regions accounted for no more than double digits, including Australia and New Zealand (5%), Latin America (3%), Middle East and Africa (2%).

The application of plant materials such as purslane, Ganoderma lucidum and eggplant is also increasing. Innova tracking found that the compound annual growth rate of new products of food, beverage and dietary supplements containing South African drunk eggplant was as high as 40% from 2015 to 2019.


In addition to recognizing the importance of nutrition for mental and emotional health, consumers are increasingly recognizing the role of nutrition in improving appearance. The growth of new dietary supplements for hair, skin and nails has driven collagen to become a high-profile raw material. According to innova data, the number of new product launches of collagen based dietary supplements in Europe, the Middle East and Africa increased dramatically from 2015 to 2019, with a compound annual growth rate of 60%. The three health products with the highest growth rate of collagen related products in these three regions are skin health, bone health and joint health.

Vitamins and minerals, hyaluronic acid and beauty related plant materials are also concerned. According to innova data, 11% of the world's new food, beverage and dietary supplements used vitamins in 2019.

Consumers' growing sense of morality and environmental awareness, as well as a busy lifestyle are also driving the change of dietary supplement product formulations.
